Thai massage is performed on a mat at floor level and involves full body manipulation by a practitioner trained to use hands feet elbows and knees in a complex series of broad contact and specific compressions, rhythmical kneadings and passive stretching.
In the course of a full body Thai massage, more than 150 specific techniques may be employed in sequence to produce profound reflex autonomic effects. This produces significant relaxation in most clients, even those who are unable to relax with other massage methods.
People receiving Thai massage are usually surprised to find that the massage is performed with clothing on. This reflects the traditional modesty of the Thai people. Ted Dreibelbis is a registered massage therapist who has traveled to northern Thailand where he has studied with Thai massage masters Aree Sanyaluck and Surin Janpanet for certification in Traditional Thai massage. He offers a unique blend of traditional Thai and modern therapeutic massage.
